No one has tried to open a gun shop in Sudbury for at least 50 years, and no one is trying to open one now. But recently, a narrow majority of the Sudbury Select Board has voted to put a zoning bylaw article on the 2024 May Town Meeting warrant which would invite two gun shops into Sudbury. They voted to put those gun shops at the eastern end of Route 20, where you enter Sudbury, next to a rail trail and across the street from residences and businesses that cater to families and children. In doing so, they excluded residents from having a say in drafting the gun shops bylaw. Then, in a purely Orwellian move, they named the bylaw the “Firearm Safety Bylaw.” It doesn’t have to be this way. We can keep gun shops out of Sudbury by voting ‘NO’ on Article 16 at Town Meeting on May 6th at LSRHS.
